The difficult thing about this is it's a decision for a whole community that's left up to certain individuals to decide what they want to do. Because if the neighboring property next to me is leased and I want to sell my house, I'm in a very difficult situation, and it's very hard for me to get financing from a bank because I'm now adjacent to an industrial zone."
In Virginia, the law allows oil and gas companies to drill under your land, even if you refused to lease. It is called "pooling". We need new legislation and better protections.
