This is How Insanely Greedy Unregulated Capitalism Has Become

Bank Lobbyists Fought For Very Thing They're Now Trying To Kill

Just a couple of years ago the American Bankers Association, "acting on principal,"... "said that policymakers should separate safety-and-soundness and consumer protection." Today they "argue that shifting consumer protection to a new agency, solely charged with protecting borrowers from abusive lenders, would irreparably hurt the nation's banks. Their argument is that by protecting consumers from particular products the new agency could have a detrimental effect on bank profitability..."

In other words, the profit making capabilities of big banks RELY on deceiving the american public into purchasing their risky products!! Apparently they can't make enough bucks the honest way........

Republican Party Spent Thousands At Lavish Hotels, Bondage-Themed Sex Club

Beautiful.....

Patriotism is more important than Partisanship

As the Republican Party spirals down from a national party to a regional rural party the crazy just gets more stark. Here's a poll from Harris which found that fully one quarter of those who call themselves Republican believe that our President is the Anti-Christ.

Nearly 60% of Republicans believe that President Obama is a Muslim. (When they aren't convinced that he is under the spell of Evangelical Christian preacher Rev. Wright.)

50% of Republicans don't believe that President Obama was born in the United States and is therefore ineligible to be President. (Maybe they just don't know where Hawaii is located?)

This is what happens when you build a political party around ignorance, fear, and hatred. You turn your back on the Party of Lincoln and become a danger to America. People like Michelle Malkin, Glen Beck, and Rush Limbaugh are getting filthy rich selling this stuff to Republicans. It is like a drug.

The Failure of Republicanism

Question for those who find themselves in league with "leaders" Eric Cantor (House Republican Whip), John Boehner (minority House leader) and Mitch McConnell (minority Senate leader):
What attracts you to these people?
Are you in with their agenda?
Where do you get off?

I'm serious.

Be Careful Who You Follow.

I see where two of the more fringe characters in the local Tea Party movement were organizing a bus trip to D.C this past week to "Surround the Capital".

God bless them, Sue Ward and Lyn Bing bring their own brand of crazy to the Valley. In their words:
The rally will begin at noon when we join fellow patriots from around the country to surround the capitol and protest Congress' corrupt takeover.

"Corrupt takeover"? It was an election, or two really. One in 2006, another in 2008. We elected the President on a campaign promise of Health Care Reform. That's how democracies work ladies. You don't have to like it but you don't get to call it a "corrupt takeover", it was the Will of the People. America won, you lost.

You aren't "patriots", you are ignorant, angry rabblerousers. Big difference.

Now quit insulting your neighbors.

How Funny...a Politician Saying we Need Courage

Obama: 'We need courage'

When it comes to politics "Courage" is like "ethics," "morality," and "common sense." It just doesn't exist except in speeches.

What Gun Show Loop Hole? Ask the Family of Downed Police

Pentagon Shooter Bought Weapon at Gunshow
Without Background Check

At the Pentagon, gunman John Patrick Bedell carried two 9 mm handguns, one of them a Ruger.

Law enforcement officials say Bedell, a man with a history of severe psychiatric problems, had been sent a letter by California authorities Jan. 10 telling him he was prohibited from buying a gun because of his mental history.

Nineteen days later, the officials say, Bedell bought the Ruger at a gun show in Las Vegas. Such a sale by a private individual does not require the kind of background check that would have stopped Bedell's purchase.

Once again, the GOP Oil Puppets are willing to Sacrifice National Security for Agenda & Profit

Is nuclear necessary? Duke study touts power of renewables

Study finds renewable energy, including solar, wind and hydroelectric, can provide all but 6% of North Carolina's electricity.

But yet the GOP continues to push for fossil fuels which endangers our national security and send troops to the slaughter in needless oil wars.

as Usual, Europe gets Energy Right

Italy to host Europe's biggest solar plant

In it's first year alone it will provide enough electricity to power 17,000 homes and prevent the emission of 40 metric TONS of carbon dioxide. What do we have in Virginia? A bunch of not-too-bright politicians beholden to Big Oil, yelling "Drill here, Drill now."

The Party of Liars & Fearmongers

Newsweek: GOP claims of health takeover are bogus

There have been lots of absurdities in the debate—such as it is—about health care reform. There's the hypocrisy of people dependent on government-run health care complaining about government-run health care. And now comes the Republican canard that the current health care reform proposal constitutes a government takeover of one-sixth of the economy.

Roanoke to Sue State Over School Funding?

The Roanoke City School Board has decided to pursue legal action against the Commonwealth and Governor McDonnell's decision to radically remake local school funding. Roanoke is estimating that their schools will see a $10 million cut in funding.

The board voted 5-2 on a motion introduced by member Jason Bingham, who said the state -- by cutting millions of dollars in state aid to localities -- is not fulfilling the constitutional requirement to establish and maintain a high-quality program of education.

I remain shocked that our local representatives have not been called on the carpet by the Rockingham School Board and the Board of Supervisors for supporting the Governor in his effort to change the school funding formulas in favor of Northern Virginia school districts. I mean, who are Matt Lohr, Todd Gilbert, and Dickie Bell working for? What of Prince Obenshain? I see Senator Hanger is fighting to open bars to gun toting drinkers. Thanks for nothin' boys!

Bread and Circus Govt. - No Dough, Many Clowns...

Gotcha! McDonnell moves from promises to rhetoric...
Dems in disarray with shallow bench.

On issues synonymous with his landslide victory, McDonnell may be signaling, as he shifts from the discipline of the campaign to the disconnectedness of governance, that rhetoric can be more important than results.

Don't count on Democrats, though, to point this out. Their wilderness years, just beginning, are complicated by erratic, disjointed leadership, coalition-rattling suspicions and a shallow, shallow bench.

The General Assembly went along with McDonnell, pledging for transportation phantom revenues from offshore drilling. The dollars may never be seen, at least on McDonnell's watch, because of any manner of wrinkles, one of which is the telling silence of oil companies. If we drill, will they come? Really?

Pumping out a lot of hot air potentially creates the appearance of momentum for McDonnell, never mind he was warned as a candidate by a prominent Hampton Roads economist who studied the dollars and sense of offshore drilling, former Old Dominion University President James Koch, that he risks overstating the supposed windfall from exploration.

Creating Jobs by Harnessing the Wind...

"Last year, with the help of Recovery Act investments, we increased wind power capacity by nearly 40 percent. According to the American Wind Energy Institute, in 2009, the U.S. wind industry announced, expanded or brought online 38 new manufacturing facilities." Steven Chu

From the New York Times:

Despite a crippling recession and tight credit markets, the American wind power industry grew at a blistering pace in 2009, adding 39 percent more capacity. The country is close to the point where 2 percent of its electricity will come from wind turbines.

The American Wind Energy Association, in its annual report to be released on Tuesday, said the amount of capacity added last year, 9,900 megawatts, was the largest on record, and was 18 percent above the capacity added in 2008, also a banner year.

The group said the growth of wind power was helped by the federal stimulus package that passed a year ago, which extended a tax credit and provided other investment incentives for the industry.

Exclusive: RNC document mocks donors, plays on 'fear.'

The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on “fear” of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism."

The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how “ego-driven” wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and “tchochkes.” Continue...

Bi-Partisan Redistricting Killed in Virginia

Governor McDonnell campaigned on non-partisan redistricting. Too bad his boys in the House of Delegates didn't get the message.

RICHMOND -- A last-ditch attempt to de-politicize the legislative redistricting process was shot down in a House of Delegates subcommittee today.

State Sen. Creigh Deeds’ bill, SB173, would have created a bipartisan advisory commission to prepare redistricting plans for General Assembly and congressional districts after the 2010 census and every 10 years afterward.

The measure had bipartisan support in the Democrat-controlled Senate, where it was approved 40-0. But a subcommittee of the Republican-controlled House killed it this morning, leaving little chance of any change in the current process before district lines must be redrawn next year.
