I will always have warm feelings toward the Salvation Army because my father was helped by them when he was a terminally ill cancer patient at the Veterans hospital in Hampton, Virginia.

Some charitable groups provide dubious benefit to our communities, but without doubt, the Salvation Army is ALWAYS on the front lines, providing caring services for people of every background and social class.

I wish that more musicians would volunteer during the Christmas holidays. My favorite memory from my youth in Norfolk, was seeing and hearing the small, Salvation Army bands, playing on the corner of Granby Street while families were doing their Christmas shopping downtown.
