Huge Cuts at VDOT

The next round of VDOT funding cuts are under consideration today:

Roadway maintenance ($277 million), highway construction ($255 million), administrative services ($115.2 million) and mass transit ($46.3 million) are among the areas slated for major cuts to achieve the $851.5 million in savings.

Want to guess whose road funding is going to be cut? Here is a clue: The Valley has never raised sufficient tax revenues to pay our way on road funding.

I'm sure this can all be cleared up by Mark Obenshain and his Delegate acolytes - with an "outside audit", the sale of the liquor stores, and some fairy dust!

Why would Tim Kaine do this ?

I wake up every day hoping that this is a dream. Obenshain, Lohr, Cline, Landes et. al. are some of the dumbest, selfish, arrogant pieces of shit that I've ever seen. They are an embarrassment to the Valley that I grew up in. I'm tired of the Valley being viewed as a joke by the rest of the state and country because of these assholes and their uneducated, cowardly followers.

Rufus,

I understand your frustration but you must clean it up with your posts.
I took one down already and I am very much opposed to denying folks the expression of their opinion. But enough is enough...

Nobody likes arrogant hosts who play god. Censorship is for self-righteous cowards like republitarian who claim to support the Constitution but get off playing god and denying Free Speech. Whose sensitivities are you protecting? The little old ladies that blog here? The so-called "christians" who are anything but christian? please.

You should watch the Judd Nelson movie "From the Hip." He plays an unconventional lawyer who calls the defendant a "bad word" (gasp!!) And then goes on to make a mockery of society and it's puritanical, hypocritical prejudices regarding words in the English language.

The truth is that Obenshain and his like-minded, mentally-challenged, republican colleagues are self-promoting, neo-nazi assholes who never could have become delegates or senators if they lived in the real world.

If you can come up a "politically correct" way to convey the EXACT image and point that my comment made, please let me know and I'll use it

Until then I appreciate you allowing me to make my point, while at the same time expecting your readers and bloggers to not be such hypocritical neophytes.

Lowell Fulk said...

And you think that by lowering yourself to the level they've been exhibiting portrays your point "exactly" as you intend?

Rufus said...

Ironic comment. I thought that by censoring me you were lowering yourself to the level of the local blogs that feel as if they play some role in social design and "civility." They hypocritically spew their own anger and bias yet prevent others from doing the same.

My views are similar to many, many Americans and for you to act as judge and jury over what you'd like to hear, versus what you are actually hearing, makes you no better than the propagandists at CNN and Foxnews.

Lowell Fulk said...

So now I'm no better than a propagandist? Well, I'm getting that from both sides of the spectrum of angry and rude bloggers now. Join the club.
Find a better way of expressing yourself Rufus. You know you're capable.

Lowell Fulk said...

I don't expect any better from them, but I do from you...

Rufus said...

Why do you hold me more responsible then them? A bit unfair and a double standard don't you think? I'm not going to apologize for being angry with the lack of leadership of Obama nor the ignorance of VA voters for electing McDonnell, Bolling and "Cutch."

And you still have not responded to my questions...

Lowell Fulk said...

And what questions are you referring to Rufus?

Lowell Fulk said...

Regarding these two:

"Why do you hold me more responsible then them?"
Because you are more...

"A bit unfair and a double standard don't you think?"

Unfair? I really don't care my friend. I expect you to be that of which you are capable. I will not accept you being them.

Now, how about addressing Bubby's post? You too anontomjeff. Rather than your childish sniping, why don't you speak to the fact that if transportation had received dedicated funding like our team wanted to put into place early in this decade, we wouldn't be in this position now...

Lowell Fulk said...

Oh and Rufus, I didn't ask you to apologize. I don't blame you for being angry with their unwillingness and seeming inability to work to constructive solutions, and their lack of intellectual curiosity to finding solutions, and I really don't blame you at all for losing your patience with their abject dishonesty to people who have placed trust in them.

Road money slashed

“There’s just not enough money to allow all 185 localities to have a construction allowance.”said Virginia Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer.

The article

State transportation officials delivered another round of bad but not unexpected news on Wednesday when they laid out plans to further slash $851.5 million from road-building operations over the next six years.

Since spring 2008, the state's six-year road plan has been reduced by $4.6 billion.

During a recession the last thing you need to do is take more money in taxes or tolls from those who are already struggling to make ends meet. What needs to happen is until the economy recovers the unnecessary extra spending for those nicety projects needs to stop and just the essentials need to be maintained.

The fair way to cut this budget is a 15% cut across the board for each program and department. no exception, until the econ improves.
