Meet Bill Ney, Candidate for City Treasurer


Bill Ney was born on December 26, 1945 in Washington, DC. His parents were Dr. Joseph and Carol S. Ney. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington in 1963. He attended both the University of Richmond and George Washington University.

Bill moved to Harrisonburg in 1968 to manage the men's department of Alfred Ney's Clothing Store, working for his aunt, Polly Zindler and his cousin, Leo Zindler. He was the fourth generation working for the family business. In 2000 Bill opened B. Ney's Men's Clothing Store and continued to operate the store until April, 2008. This was the conclusion of 140 years of a family business.

On February 7, 1970 Bill Ney married Leslie Steadman. The couple has two daughters, Jennifer & Meredith. They are both living in Washington, DC working for Americorps programs.

During the 1970's Bill was a member of the Harrisonburg Jaycees and served on their board for several years as a Director, Vice President and State Director. He was selected as the Outstanding State Director for Virginia.

For the past 12 years, Bill has been serving on the Board of Directors of Beth El Congregation. He spent 2 years each as Brotherhood President, Vice President, and President, before serving the last 6 years as Treasurer. Currently Bill is serving on the Board of Directors for a 6 year term as Trustee.
