McDonnell's Troubles Part Deu...

Was Bob McDonnell Paying Any Attention to the Office???

At All???

If Bob McDonnell can't run
the Attorney General's Office
What makes anyone think he can be Governor?

Thanks to Blue Virginia and Not Larry Sabato for being on the ball!

One Assistant Attorney General has been busted for a felony drug crime,

Now another Assistant AG under Bob McDonnell is embroiled in a domestic abuse situation, with a young woman who he met online,... when she was sixteen,... and living in another country....

Seems Anthony P. Meredith was able to lure this young woman to the United States when she became 18... Now she must fear not only for her and her child's safety, but also of concern is that this upstanding young republican Assistant AG tried to get her into trouble with the government over her residency in the U.S.... After he was the one who lured her here in the first place!

But of course Bob McDonnell is in no way responsible for what went on under His watch...

It's always someone else's responsibility when things go wrong for these guys, like the economy...

What the heck? Drug dealers and wife beaters in the top law enforcement office in Virginia?

What next?.......

I look forward to see John Doe come and explain how owing back taxes is worse than beating women and selling drugs.

Shari, beating women and selling drugs is worse. I agree with you!

The issue is whether McDonnell knew or should have known of what the subordinates did. Obama KNEW what his choices had done and chose them anyway. It wasn't the fact that his choices wrong. Each was responsible for their actions--he wasn't responsible in the least. But after he learned of their tax evasion he endorsed it by choosing them anyway. It would be like if McDonnell learned of his suborndinate was selling drugs and decided to keep him on as AAG anyway. There is no evidence that McDonnell knew or should have known.

The problem I have with this argument that McDonnell can't be governor because he "couldn't run the AG's office" is that it is not logical. We don't hold people to an impossible standard--no matter what happens, no matter how hidden it was, if it happens "under your watch" you are responsible. Was Bill Clinton "responsible" when Vince Foster committed suicide? What was McDonnell to do to prevent these instances? Bug their houses and cars? Be a mind-reader? Now, if all you want to do is pander to idiots who don't really use their minds, keep pandering. But I'm all ears if anyone hear can point to FACTS which tend to indicate that McDonnell knew or should have known his subordinates did something wrong. That is where the real debate should take place. Anybody?

I think you've fairly stated your opening John and look forward to following the discussion among you folks.

Two different situations at the outset but something I'd like to ask about, haven't folks on the right in fact been maintaining for almost two decades that Clinton was responsible for Foster's death?

Perhaps I remember incorrectly?

Anyway, thanks to you both for following up.

He he, Lowell, they were claiming Bubba had him murdered (or Hillary did), NOT that he was somehow responsible because Vince killed himself. Slight difference, doncha think? And no, I was never one who said Bubba or Hill did it.

I'd say that's a VERY slight difference.
It's also pretty funny that you should be expected to have differing views of the mainstream right, yet you insist, with zeal, that liberals must always carry Dem water. Your strange logic in fascinating.

That's because it's not logic Zen. It's parsing equivocation. John doesn't address issues raised, he changes the subject to something he wants to talk about. But I must say at least today he is being civil so I'm willing to play, for the moment.

John, in your mind, what was Bob McDonnell responsible for in the office of A.G.? Obviously you want to give him a bye on actually being in charge of the office personnel and operations.

And in other writings, (yes I read your rants elsewhere, I like to get into my opponents head, works well in law)you operate on much assumption to claim that others commenting have no human resource experience.

Please back that claim up with evidence along with your resume on running a large personnel department in order to provide your bona fides in HR.

You can bluster, but I'm a bottom line kind of person. If you can't back it up, don't waste my time.

John,
I would like to clarify. I'm not asking you to name a firm or company. No need to go there.

zen, are you NUTS? It's the difference between Bubba hving Foster murdered (for which Bubba would be directly responsible) and Foster committing suicide without giving any forewarning (for which only idiots would hold Bubba responsible).HUGE difference, not "slight difference". Or am I missing your point? You always twist my words. I never said liberals MUST carry water for Dems, I said they DO (almost inevitably) voluntarily. Feel free to prove me wrong. I can't remember ANY position with which you have ever disagreed with the Democratic leadership (in fairness to you, that is because you are an ultra liberal and the ultra liberals control the Dem party). The conservatives are the country cousins of the Pub party, not the ones in power generally. At any rate, it was not the mainstream Pub position that Bubba had Foster killed, it was that it was covered up (to hide secrets, whatever) that was the mainstream Pub position. Again, BIG DIFFERENCE.

The fish rots from head analogy assumes he could've/should've known. And the assumption is based on partisan politics, or just sloppy thinking. Let me put it back on ya'll. HOW was he supposed to know the guy was a pothead? I'm assuming that he must have hid it well, having been in that office since 1999 (?), during which time he dealt with supers and cops and judges and court personel who presumably would have known what a doper looks like. If those people in direct contact with him daily didn't know, how could McDonnell know. Answer me that, & I'll concede.

A 37 year old square-goober whitebread Repub shows up with his 18 y.o. mail order Columbian bride...and Taliban Bob didn't have a red flag go up? Give me a break. I'm guessing every woman in the office was walking a 30 foot circle around this freak.

What would you have him do, dumbass? Fire the guy for legally marrying somebody 18 years old? Memo From Bob McDonnell. RE: Firing guy for marrying a mail order bride? Or, Memo: Keep an eye on square pants and trump up charges to fire him. TIA, Bobby? Or this, MEMO: Keep an eye on square-goober whitebread, I'm pretty sure he is gonna slap the little bitch around!?

For somebody who fancies himself as so smart you sure lack common sense. [Sorry Shari if you consider this "not playing nice" but I don't suffer fools gladly, and Bubby sure is.]

Virginia Assistant Attorney General Tony P. Meredith was found by a court of law to be falsifying evidence (tried to coerce a Priest to file a false affidavit that Meredith had written), intimidating witnesses (threatened to sue his own father), made false statements to a police officer, had brandished his Virginia police badge in an attempt to avoid arrest, and had been subjected to court ordered mental examination and found to be "dangerous"...all one year before leaving the employ of Bob McDonnell.

Bubby! NOW you are talking! Those are facts--which if true--go a long way towards making your case for you. [course, knowing what a pathological liar you are, I'll have to look into this before I blindly accept anything that you say] But we have made good progress here--you are finally focusing your attention on what really matters. If these things are true (a big if, since you are the source), then I am very disturbed. I will look into it and get back with you. But good job!

I've read the court ruling that you cited, and it disturbs me. I know that any divorce and custody fight gets nasty--that's why I refuse to handle any such cases. But I know enough to realize there are two sides to every story, and just because the court ruled against this chump don't make it so.

Second, I do know that it is harder to fire a state employee than you or me out in the real world. Not sure if that applies to AAGs. I don't think for instance that you could fire a lower level state employee for what was alleged in the court's ruling. So it is possible McDonnell couldn't have fired this guy if he wanted to. If he could, I am undecided whether he should have fired him or not, although I probably would have. So I guess, if McDonnell could in fact fire this guy for this and he knew of the allegations (not a done deal, as this was in DC, unless it was brought to McDonnell's attention), then he probably should have. Sorry for the detailed analysis but the devil is in the details.

But look, Bubby, my dogged persistence in getting you to set forth FACTS has gotten you on the right track. No matter what my ultimate opinion is, your purpose-- which is to pursuade others that McDonnell is a dirtbag no good AG-- has been strengthened by me nagging you to stick to the facts! Good job.

So John Doe I guess this is your way of saying Bubby was right all along while you were wrong?
