The Torch is Passed

For me, a few hours ago, this campaign came to an end. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives, and the dream shall never die.

The more our feelings diverge, the more deeply felt they are, the greater is our obligation to grant the sincerity and essential decency of our fellow citizens on the other side. . . .

In short, I hope for an America where neither "fundamentalist" nor "humanist" will be a dirty word, but a fair description of the different ways in which people of good will look at life and into their own souls.

I hope for an America where no president, no public official, no individual will ever be deemed a greater or lesser American because of religious doubt -- or religious belief.

I hope for an America where the power of faith will always burn brightly, but where no modern inquisition of any kind will ever light the fires of fear, coercion, or angry division.

I hope for an America where we can all contend freely and vigorously, but where we will treasure and guard those standards of civility which alone make this nation safe for both democracy and diversity.

-- Speech on "Truth and Tolerance in America," Oct. 3, 1983, Lynchburg, Va.

Rudeness is a weak man's imitation of strength.
Pretty much sums up John Doe.

Dear Crazy People;
This blog will not provide access to your filthy little world - so don't post links. Good luck.

Tell me again how you don't censor and erase things.

Hey Megan, when you lose a respected elder can I post a link on your web site mocking him or her? Let's get the agreement in place right now in case I ever decide to do the drive-by.

Those of us who aren't brain dead remember what was said by despicable liberals about Bob Novak. Calling Ted Kennedy a "respected elder" is like calling a house cat an African lion. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he was a lying, womanizing, drunken bastard all his life, and now suddenly we are supposed to think that he was a "respected elder"?

Actually JD, think about it...all those things would make him highly respected amongst the Left, no?

Now this is gold Megan: Everytime a rightwing Republican fringe nutcase like John Doe posts comments like this it does two things: 1)Reminds Democrats what we are fighting for, and 2)Illustrates for sensible Republicans how far off the rails their base has gone. What's it like living in Crazytown?

Bubby can dish it out, but he cries like a little pedophile when it gets dished back to him.

Bubby for you to say all Republicans act this way is not fair either. Tom

John Doe no matter what we think of someone when they are alive we should show a little more respect for them when they pass on out of respect for their family. Tom

Heh, as if their family reads RockDem. You pathetic liberals treated George W. Bush worse than anything that I could ever say about Fat Teddy Kennedy.

Heck, as soon as work is over, I'm going to go have a drink in memory of him. A lot of Scotch, with a little salt water, and drink until the girl dies...
