Porn in the U.S.A. GOP Family Values?

8 of Top 10 Porn-Consuming States Voted Republican in 2008 Presidential Election

...there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds.

"Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by"

  • The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users
  • Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election
  • Six out of the lowest 10 favored Barack Obama
  • Church-goers bought less online porn on Sundays – a 1% increase in a postal code's religious attendance was associated with a 0.1% drop in subscriptions that day. However, expenditures on other days of the week brought them in line with the rest of the country
  • Residents of 27 states that passed laws banning gay marriages boasted 11% more porn subscribers than states that don't explicitly restrict gay marriage

It will be interesting to witness the sanctimonious at work to spin the results of this finding which supports other studies of trends on obesity, domestic violence, incarceration rate, dropout rate, teen pregnancy rate etc...

If you click the link, you'll see that "per 1000 home broadband users" applies to the study as a whole. So we're talking about people who have internet access -- they just disproportionately choose to use it for things other than porn. (Like, for example, following politics and researching issues.)

I think perhaps Mark doesn't understand what "debunk" means.
Hmmm... Harvard professor conducts extensive study of data. Multiple outlets report on study, quoting data from study. Data shows trend. Mark doesn't like trend. Mark writes words saying study inconclusive. Mark says his words carry more weight than data from extensive research study by Harvard professor. Mark delusional on good day.

Anonymous, you are quite possibly the stupidest person--who possesses such an unwarranted high opinion of himself--that has ever been witnessed on the internet. The STUDY wasn't debunked by the article, the MSM's misinterpretation of it was debunked. The "Harvard Study" didn't even bother to try to find out whether the people were conservative or liberal. Course you, being an unthinking moron who believes everything you read in the news, I can see why you would be mislead.

I think John Doe is also delusional on his best days.

John,
You might not look so foolish if you would download the pdf and read it.
If you can read those big words that is. ;0)
BTW, how's your mom?

Toni D you are so f'n stupid it embarrasses even me. I READ the pdf. It does NOT identify the actual persons who subscribed to the porn. The study compared the states that are more conservative or more liberal in general with the subscription rates of users of on-line porn. But--pay attention dumb bitch--the rates were <2.4 to >3.6 per 1,000 people. Even a brain dead butch such as yourself should be able to see that the fact that 3.6 of 1,000 people in a given state subscribe to porn doesn't "prove" that those 3.6 per 1,000 people are conservative, liberal, or, like you, merely have shit for brains. The ONLY thing the study "proves" is that the rates are higher in some states than in others. It doesn't prove conservatives are more likely than liberals to subscribe. It could just as easily prove that the liberals in those states are more likely to subscribe to online porn. I'm sorry your father abused you as a child and no man wants anything to do with you now, but really, this is just an issue of reading comprehension. You can work on that.

Don't know much about statistical sampling and analysis, huh Johnny?
Better stick with what you do know something about, like twisting logic to defend criminals. There were several data sets in the study that did indeed show trending, but you would know that if you had analytical ability. Leave the thinking to people who are comfortable with the process.

Not all pornography abuses women. But if John Doe wants to persuade people there's an intrinsic link between right-wing viewpoints and pornography consumption, he sure chose a clever rhetorical style.
