When Did Your County's Jobs Disappear?

Time Line Study of Cause and Effect

Unit 1

An interactive map
of vanishing employment across the country

The economic crisis, which has claimed more than 5 million jobs since the recession began, did not strike the entire country at once. A map of employment gains or losses by county tells the story of how those job losses first struck in the most vulnerable regions and then spread rapidly to the rest of the country. As early as August 2007, for example—several months before the recession officially began—jobs were already on the decline in southwest Florida; Orange County, Calif.; much of New Jersey; and Detroit, while other areas of the country remained on the uptick.

Fulk isn't it strange that since the recession started we have lost 5 million jobs and since the stimulus package that was suppose to create jobs was passed we have lost 2 million? Fulk wake up the blame GWB game is over and you know it. What will you say when July numbers come in and we have even more jobs ?

I will say something like:

"All knowledgeable, reasoned and intelligent people understand that trend reversal takes time and effort to put into place and doesn't begin to show itself in the short term.

Individuals who impatiently demand immediate results as regard the economic crisis either lack basic understanding, experience, integrity, or some combination of these characteristics coupled with an agenda to seek political gain as opposed to the betterment of our society."

But I won't wait till then, I know how much trouble you have with patience.

So maybe even you realize that when BHO said if the stimulus package was passed it would keep unemployment below 8% either he had no idea what he was talking about or he flat out lied ?

Fulk if your post is correct then you just proved that we have lost alot more jobs per month since BHO took office than we did when GWB was in office. Fulk is that the CHANGE you wanted ?

Uncle Sam Obama said he could turn the economy around with the stimulus package it has not happened you are a idiot. Backlash coming soon. Uncle Sam please call me some more bad names you are just mad cause BHO is a flop and Fulk just proved my point.

Just to chime in on what seems to be an ever more heated exchange, it seems that it would be prudent to remind ourselves that President Obama has only held office for six months at this point. In light of such, it is far too early to determine whether or not he is a "flop". The first six months are important, yes, but I would imagine that President Obama may just have plans for the other 42.

Additionally, to claim that "The blame GWB 'game' is over" demonstrates that not only did you fail to read the article, (which does not mention Former President Bush once) it also serves as a childish attempt to make this an Us vs. Them debate. Discussing people is the job of tabloid writers, discussing policy is often much more thought provoking.

Lastly, and Lowell touched on this much more eloquently than I imagine I will, but to expect the economy to suddenly about-face out of the worst economic recession since the Great Depression in six months is not merely impatience, it's historical ignorance.

Andy or Lowell or who ever you really are. Obama is the one that claimed he was going to jump start the economy with the stimulus package even H.Reid said the stimulus has not delivered the desired results.

Lowell has BHO figured out how many states we have yet ?

Fulk if the unemployment numbers keep going up as some economist say they will for the rest of the year what do you think people will think of Obama then ?

i think we only have to remember the past 8 years and even before that during the reagan administration is where it started with the airline workers, it has been downhill ever since. The crooked republican agenda has been to dismantle the middle class of this country with a methodical transferring of the wealth and jobs overseas, leaving the crumbs behind for the rest to fight over, what a shame. They are doing this under the guise of nationalism even though their intent is deemed otherwise. The last election was just a pause in their quest for total domination of not only u.s. also the rest of the world. this must stop if we are to represent a country that is sharing and caring about people. the agenda of only for the rich, which means the corporations and their henchmen, must come to a screeching halt or else we will descend into slavery 21st century style
